What does INTERLENGUA mean?

The term “Interlengua” was popularized by Larry Selinker (1969, 1972), although the first to deal with the concept was Stephen Pit Corder (1967), who established the basis for the investigation of the error analysis model. An “interlanguage” (interlengua) is an idiolect which has been developed by a learner of a second language (L2) which preserves some features of their first language (L1) and can overgeneralize some second language (L2) writing and speaking rules. These two characteristics give an interlanguage its unique linguistic organization.

YOUR TEACHER

I am a certified native Spanish speaker and a certified French teacher from Venezuela, with a 16-year-teaching background. I had the opportunity to work as a Spanish teacher in France and as a French teacher in Venezuela, in different teaching contexts: elementary, middle and high school, and language institutes, as well. I have also worked as an online tutor in both languages for more than 9 years now, with people from different countries, ages and professions such as engineers, doctors, accountants and lawyers.

In 2009, I had a bachelor's degree in Foreign Language Teaching at University of Zulia, in my home country. The same year, I had the opportunity to go to France to work as a Spanish assistant in two middle Schools in Normandy. In 2012, I had a master’s degree in Linguistics at University of Caen Basse-Normandie. This immersion experience helped me to master the French language and to understand how it is the process of learning a foreign language. In 2023, I finished a specialization in Teaching Spanish as a foreign language which I decided to do in order to update my teacher training. Teachers never stop to learn!

Regarding me, I speak French, English and Spanish. I love to read, dance, do yoga, listen to music, and also to discover places, people and traditions by traveling. That's why I love my job as a language teacher because I feel I can travel all around the world through my students and learn from them. I am an open-minded person who is always interested in learning and not just in teaching.

After having worked as a French and Spanish tutor for over 9 years on different platforms and having become a mother, I thought it was time to challenge myself and to achieve my professional goals as my students do by learning a new foreign language.

As with every project, making the decision is the easiest part but the process of getting it done is the real challenge. Why now? Well, it is never too late to start or start over, but the fact of being a mom encouraged me to go further and to try to make my dreams come true even if it is the busiest time of my life.

This e-learning project is conceived to help people to achieve personal and professional goals by having a good time, discovering new languages and cultures.

“Online language learning is a multicultural, cozy and enriching experience that allows you to achieve your goals in an authentic way”- Gabriela Fernández
